Let’s continue to examine how to set major themes to create deeper plot and story development. In this 3 of 4 posts, will focus on the feelings driving our characters.
For my work, I’m lighting the emotional stage with four different main feelings: love, ambition, happiness and shame. For each feeling, different characters will exist and move along different points on the full spectrum of each feeling. For example, the main woman starts the novel in a consuming teenage love. Later, she sinks into a pit of shame. Along the way, she experiences happiness and sadness (negative happiness) while cultivating a defining ambition.
When you think about your story, which feelings do you want to question or challenge?
