Just sit and write.

A dozen people have read and commented on my first draft. My writing group has reviewed it. My professor has reviewed my novel and commented. Now, I must write again. More. Still.

“Write the damn book!” screamed Tom Clancy, in the interview I watched years ago. I think of a more tame version: Just sit and write. Every day. Everywhere. Today, I find myself in Kansas. Here’s a bench and a few hours of time.

So today, I chopped and chopped words. If it does not support the main plot, cut it. If several people did not like it, consider rewriting or cutting it. I spent two hours realigning each of my scenes. Does each scene contribute to tension? Does each scene move the story forward? If not, cut it… or at least move it to another folder. 😉

How do you shift from right-brain writing and creating to left-brain cutting and rewriting?
