“Dear Novelist…” That’s how my first Stanford course email was addressed to me. Is it time for me to call myself a novelist? I’ve started this novel that I will produce during this 2-year creative writing program. That is the point: to produce a novel. Does that make me a novelist? I’m getting more comfortable talking about myself as a writer, but novelist seems like a larger word, an earned title. So, here I go… I hope to learn much about the craft of being a novelist. I hope to become a novelist. And along the way, maybe I’ll discover what the term novelist means.
